A Weekend in San Francisco: Take A Break
By Kevin Raub

Cuban cigars get all the press, but the island’s coffee is muy bien as well. At San Francisco’s first Cuban coffee bar, Café Lo Cubano, authentic preparations like cafecito (espresso with a teaspoon of sugar) and cortadito (with a tablespoon of milk) are served up in a Buena Vista Social Club atmosphere in Laurel Heights. Heavy-hitting chef Johnnie Alamilla (of Alma fame) oversees the delicious hot-pressed Cuban sandwiches chased by the sweet caffeine concoctions—recently declared the best coffee in the city by the San Francisco Examiner.
